Chicken Dissection

Aim: What is the point of the Experiment?

To see visually what we learnt in class about bones, muscles and joints

Reasearch: A paragraph about the anatomy of a chicken leg

The thigh of a chicken is the upper part of the leg attached to the body of the bird. The thigh ends at the lower leg (drumstick). The thigh is connected to the shank (foot) at the hock joint, which is the equivalent of the ankle in humans. Chickens stand and walk on their toes.

Method: The steps you took to dissect it (like a recipe)

  1. Took off the skin
  2. Looked at the muscles and tendons
  3. Moved the bones to see the muscles
  4. Removed the muscles to look at the bones
  5. Looking at the joints, cartilage and ligament

Results: Pictures or video of the experiment

Discussion: Did it work like you wanted it to? Would you do anything differently next time?

In my opinion when we were taking off the skin we should off used the tool differently to make it more helpful to get to the muscles and tendons, I also think that using the surgical scissors to carve off the skin to get to the subtaneous fat under the first layer. From that I think it was a very fun dissection to do.
